A Practitioner Inquiry Approach...

Helps us to be life-long learners
Provides with a chance to experience the process of Inquiry from a personal perspective
It really can Personalise Professional Learning
All the research tells us that if we develop good reflective practice, it will lead to improved student engagement

Our aim is to target 2 to 3 staff meetings per term for personal reflection
Meetings will be 15-20 minutes only, but may be longer if needed

THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS...

At the end of each term engage in a 'summary of progress' which can be shared with your mentor
At the end of year, provide an opportunity to share and celebrate our learning with colleagues (if you feel comfortable)

It can be linked to Instructional Rounds
It can be linked to the National Professional Standards for Teachers Framework (it probably should be)
It is like an 'Action Research' for professional learning ie it is ongoing
You are both practitioner and researcher
Its purpose is to advance practice (your practice)
It is professional learning in the workplace

Cycle of ongoing learning:
Reflect > Review > Refocus > Revise > Renew > Reflect

Reflect
What do I want to investigate further?
Stop and think - what's bothering you? Instructional Rounds? National Professional Standards for Teachers?
State as a question eg: How can online collaboration help students deepen their learning?

Review
What is the current situation and how do you know (evidence)?
Test your assumptions and define your baseline data. What are the +/-/aspirations?
What anecdotal, data, photos, graphs, video can you show?

Refocus
Deepen professional knowledge and refine skills - what do I need to learn, do or change?
Use data to refocus on situation and design a change in practice

Revise
Engage students in new learning experiences - try out the change, take small steps, give it a go, you can do it!!
Collect data on the change (statements, photos, video, samples, student evaluations, data).
Has it informed your question? Has it made a difference?
What is the outcome for teacher and student?

Renew
What has been the impact of this change?
Does it need further investigation or new direction?
Do you need a new question?

Reflect
What did I learn? Positives, negatives, affirmations?
